Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

CompareFuneral (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates the website comparefuneral.co.uk. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this website.

2. What data we collect

We collect data you provide voluntarily when using our services:

  • Name, email address and phone number when you submit an enquiry form
  • Your message and service interest when you contact a funeral home through us

When you use the “Near me” feature, your browser requests your device's GPS coordinates. This is processed entirely in your browser — we do not store your location on our servers.

3. How we use your data

  • To forward your enquiry to the relevant funeral home
  • To respond to your messages and support requests
  • To improve the service (using aggregated, anonymous usage data)

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.

4. Legal basis

We process your data on the basis of your consent (when you submit a form) and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service.

5. Data retention

Enquiry data is retained for 24 months from the date of submission, or until you request deletion.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing
  • Lodge a complaint with the ICO (ico.org.uk)

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us via the contact page.

7. Cookies

We use a single functional cookie to remember your dark/light mode preference. This cookie contains no personal data and does not track you across other websites.

8. Third parties

We use Supabase (EU data centres) for database hosting. Enquiry data may be visible to the funeral home you contact — they are independent data controllers for any data they receive.
